Getting Fit for the Future

Welcome to Losing Weight Before 2008

I am recovering from an appendectomy and feel quite run down and have gained weight.  I have a physically demanding job that I have found is complicated getting back into the swing of things.  Over the last few days I have come to realize I MUST lose wait and I respond better to a plan, than not.  I know that the funk I am in will go away as the pounds shed, because it has worked in the past.

I have decided to document my journey for my own benefit and to encourage others as well.  I will make a series of entries to journal my progress.  I also decided upon the Townhall.com blog section because I want to post about my feelings regarding the political scene as well

So here is the plan.  I am going to do a modified version of the Physical Training (PT) I did while in college ROTC.  It was a time in my life that I was the most healthy.

The plan will be as follows
1.  Each morning after waking I will stretch my arms, torso and legs for several minutes.
2.  Set timer for two minutes and do as many push-ups as possible.
3.  Set timer for two minutes and do as many sit-ups as possible.
3.  Walk/jog/run the two mile course I have predetermined from my home.

Simple plan, the results will follow.

There will be a lot of pain for the first week and perhaps I will have to modify my work as a result, not exactly sure about that.  Also, because I have not done a push-up or sit-up in years, I suppose it will be difficult to get started.  The plan is to get in the position and for the two minutes attempt to do the exercise by exerting the effort in bursts, which will strengthen the muscles and eventually, with the weight lose and strengthening I will do my first complete push-up and sit-up.  Those will be milestones, as well as the first day I run the two mile route without walking.

I will post it all here as I progress.
